I don’t remember exactly why I knew about PwC internship :) but I remember exactly one year ago, I started looking for an internship in a finance firm (including KPMG, Deloitte,…). I even sent an email to KPMG HR to ask whether I could apply for an internship position. For Deloitte, I downloaded its internship application…However, I didn’t submit that application (don’t remember why)

This year, when I came to visit PwC for applying internship. How surprise I was because there is my account profile in its database :) )

After submit my application, I was waiting for it invitation to the 1st round: Verbal Reasoning & Writing Test + Math Test. I had a strong feelings that I will receive that invitation :D

On the test day, I was late for 30 mins! Actually I didn’t mean to come late. I woke up early, dressed up, had a great breakfast and believed that I wouldn’t come late. But when I entered the room, I was surprised because all others were there. Finally, I discovered the reason is that I noted a wrong time in my phone ( 8:30AM instead of 8AM)

However, I was not anxious because the test was not started yet :)

For verbal reasoning, I think it’s not difficult, but the test is long and the time is limited so it makes difficult to complete all questions. For math section, it’s not difficult at all although the time is strict, but with a calculator, it makes thing simple and fast. The hardest is to understand the question, otherwise it will lead to a wrong answer. The writing section is not long. Only 2 question: 1 is to correct grammatical errors in business email, 1 is to write an essay.

For all 3 parts, I thought I did well, especially for math section. One again, I had a strong feelings that I will pass to 2nd round :) and I got it.

The 2nd round is Group Interview and it made me worry the most. HR will randomly arrange a group, usually around 5-10 people. Each group will be given a topic, 30 mins for discussion, 15 mins for each member to presentation. I have to admit that I don’t know anything about accountant/audit/finance world. So , I google the information for group interview experience at PwC. Found many topics discussed about it, and I also found out that PwC is in Big4 company in accountant/audit. “Big4″ is an alias that students in Economics/Accountant/etc named for 4 big company in the field: KPMG, PwC, Deloitte, Ernest & Young. One key element to succeed in this round: be confident :)

You will be given a topic paper, so read it clearly and analyze it, also remember to note your ideas in that paper (because it will be collected by the staff). When in discussion, try to speak out your ideas or support other members’ ideas if you also agree. DO NOT ARGUE TOO MUCH. Try to harmonize with others. Don’t try to be “stand-out” like “hero” :) When in presentation, speak slowly & clear your part. Don’t be afraid that your idea is wrong, the HR staff don’t care about that. They care more on your ability to work in an assigned group.

The final round may be the easiest round: face-to-face interview with HR staff or manager. Presenting your self with the interviewer + questioning if any to him/her. Be honest!

If you want to apply for Big4, remember to track their internship offer in their website (usually in Oct). Also don’t be afraid to submit your application. If you can pass application screening round, then you have 50% of success in hand, the rest is depend on how you use your skill, your knowledge to win.

I will begin my internship at PwC next month. It will be a whole new experience for me there. Can’t wait!
